September (from the Latin septum, "seven") was originally the seventh of the ten months on the oldest known Roman calendar, with March (Latin Martius) possibly as early as 153 BC by the first month of the year. After the calendar reform that added January and February to the beginning of the year, September became the ninth month, but it retained its name. The Julian Reformation had 29 days, with one day added.
September was called "harvest month" in Charlemagne's calendar. It partly corresponds to Fructidor and partly to Vendemeyer of the First French Republic. On Usenet, it is said that September 1993 (Eternal September) never ended. September is called the harvest month in Switzerland. The Anglo-Saxons termed Gerstonemath as the month of barley, which crops up.
Meteorites occurring in September include Aurigides, Delta Organoids, which occur from mid-September to early October, southern Taurids, which occur from 10 September to 20 November, and Andromedes from 25 September to 25 December.
